Michelle Obama and daughter Sasha are in Marbella, Spain until Sunday, August 8. President Obama remains in Washington DC and older daughter Malia is at summer camp in the U.S. until Friday.
There is lots of speculation that missing father and daughter will join the rest of the first family as early as Friday night. Secret Service advance teams have reportedly staked out Cordoba, Granada, Majorca and Ronda for possible FLOTUS ... or POTUS visits. Here's what we know. The first lady's mother-daughter trip is considered private, so no excursion details have been released.
But Ronda and the greater Serrania remains a favorite destination for many heads of state. The Clintons have been to Ronda before, and UK Prime Minister David Cameron is reported to be in Gaucin this week. So let me be clear.
I predict the Obamas will make the trip to Ronda.
One of President Obama's favorite book's is Ernest Hemingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls," according to a 2008 Rolling Stone magazine nterview. The lefty author is a kindred spirit for Obama. The city by the Tajo is just 60 kilometers from Marbella. The hiking, cycling and horseback riding in the Ronda mountains are world-class.
If the Obamas do make the Ronda trip, the Serrania could double as a sangria and sun summit for vacationing heads of state. Obama could squeeze in state visits with Cameron, the Spanish PM, and play all the golf he wants along the costa. I wouldn't be surprised to see the first family at Ronda's bull ring, grabbing a meal at Albacara, or doing some Genal Valley hiking. But we'll see.
